PURPOSE: To accurately chamfer the edge portion of a gear-like workpiece with a required chamfering width by preparing position data on tool feeding direction necessary for chamfering the edge portion with the required chamfering width based on apex angle data on each point of the edge portion.
CONSTITUTION: A chamfering width set value L is inputted and position data on a tool 5 feeding direction necessary for chamfering each point of an edge portion with the set value L, that is, position data of a Z axis, is calculated based on apex angle data stored in a profile file. The position data of respective X, Y, Z, B, C axes among the points of the edge sections are interpolation- calculated and an NC program is prepared. When an NC working machine is operated based on the NC program thus prepared, the feeding amount of the tool 5 in the Z axis direction is large in the edge section having a small apex angle Ψ, small in the edge section having a large apex angle Ψ and thus, even when the apex angle Ψ changes, the chamfering width is maintained at the set value L.
