PURPOSE: To execute the change and maintenance of a roll exactly and quickly.

CONSTITUTION: Old rolls which are incorporated in the stands 11-14 of tandem rolling equipment and used are changed between the stands and roll changing trucks 21-24. Maintained new rolls 16 are housed on the changing truck 21 and stood to prepare for roll change. Changed old rolls 17 are transferred from the changing truck 21 onto a transfer truck 20 and the chocks on both sides are dismounted with chock mounting and dismounting devices 28a, 28b. The old rolls 17 from which both chocks are dismounted are delivered at the roll delivering position from on the transfer truck 20 to an autoloader 39. The autoloader 39 is moved from a roll changing yard 2 to roll maintaining yard 3, the old rolls 17 are transported to roll grinders 31-33 without changing their directions and roll grinding is executed. And the new rolls 16 completing maintenance such as grinding are transported from the roll stock yard 34 to the transfer truck 20 without changing their directions.
