To provide a method for extremely enhancing an intrinsic permittivity of a dielectric crystal and to provide a method for controlling the permittivity of the dielectric crystal to a desired permittivity, a variable capacity having a small size and high reliability utilizing the controlling method, an ultraviolet sensor and a magnetic sensor.
The method for changing the permittivity comprises the steps of holding the dielectric crystal of quantum paraelectrics or a ferroelectric crystal at a temperature near a phase transfer temperature, emitting a light having an energy corresponding to a band gap energy of the crystal, applying an electric field or a magnetic field, inducing a photo-excited state for extremely strongly bringing about a collaboratively mutual action of the dielectric crystal to obtain an extremely large permittivity proportional to the intensity of the light, and controlling the permittivity according to the intensity of the light, the electric field and the magnetic field.
