PURPOSE: To obtain a chloroimidazole-based compound useful as medicines, etc., in high yield for a short time without causing side reaction by chlorinating the imidazole ring with an N-chlorosuccinimide used as a chlorinating agent in the presence of hydrochloric acid.
CONSTITUTION: N-Chlorosuccinimide is used to chlorinate the imidazole ring in the presence of hydrochloric acid. For example, the imidazole ring of a compound expressed by the formula (A, B and C are H or substituent group) can be chlorinated by the aforementioned method. The chlorination is preferably carried out in an organic solvent, e.g. chloroform or ethyl acetate. The hydrochloric acid used for the reaction may be concentrated hydrochloric acid or diluted hydrochloric acid and the amount thereof added is sufficiently an equimolar amount or less based on the imidazole compound.
