To co-combust biomass fuel containing much moisture and having a particle size of millimeter order with pulverized coal, in a pulverized coal-fired boiler furnace, without needing incidental equipment such as a drying facility or pulverization facility.
In a method, pulverized coal and biomass fuel are co-combusted in a pulverized coal-fired boiler furnace having a multistage burner provided in the height direction by supplying the pulverized coal and biomass fuel from the multistage burner together with air. With respect to large-particle biomass fuel having a particle size of 3 mm or less, containing >40 mass% and ≤80 mass% of moisture and having an integrated particle size distribution of 80% or more, it is supplied from a burner positioned at a level vertically higher by 5 m or more than the bottom burner. Even the biomass fuel high in moisture and having a particle size of millimeter order can be co-combusted with pulverized coal and burnt in the boiler furnace without needing incidental equipment such as the drying facility or pulverization facility.
