Abstract:

To provide a new method and a composition for treating injury of mammalian spinal cord.

In order to achieve in vivo restoration of injured mammalian nervous tissue, an effective amount of a biomembrane fusion bonding agent as amphiphilic polymer is given to the injured nervous tissue. Application of the biomembrane fusion bonding agent can be performed by bringing the material into direct contact with the nervous tissue of the site of injury. Alternatively, the biomembrane fusion bonding agent can be delivered to the site of injury by blood supply after administration of the biomembrane fusion bonding agent to a patient. Preferably, the administration is parenteral administration of an effective amount of biomembrane fusion bonding agent including intravascular, intramuscular, subcutaneous or intraperiotoneal injection. As a result, the effective amount is delivered to the site of injury of the nervous tissue.
