To provide a method of conducting crush tests using a carriage which can reproduce actual decelerating curves very precisely, and furthermore, which is low in cost and prevents waste of time.

The method involves simulating the deceleration forces of a real crash by accelerating a crash-test carriage having a carriage driving device according to a real deceleration curve. The method includes the step of exerting a force which is greater than respective forces required for acceleration according to the actual deceleration curve on the carriage in an acceleration direction during the test, and the step of exerting a braking force on the carriage or the driving device in a direction opposite to the acceleration direction using a braking device in order to achieve a desired acceleration curve. The braking force is regulated depending on the desired pressure of the braking device without reference to measured acceleration so as to accelerate the carriage according to the desired acceleration curve.
