PURPOSE: To provide a method and a connecting member for connecting a metal plate to a metallic structural material without necessitating any special tool and device and also any skill in working.

CONSTITUTION: A penetration 12 is cutting-processed on a metal plate 11 from above the metal plate 11 overlapped on a metallic structural material 10 by a drill, while a prepared hole 13 having a fixed depth is cutting-processed on the structured material 10. On the other hand, a shaft portion 2 of a rivet-like connecting member 1 whose whole parts are hardened by hardening is inserted into the prepared hole 13 through the penetration 12, and tightening head 3 is driven by a hammer, etc., and projecting lines 4 provided on the outer peripheral surface of the shaft portion 2 are press-fitted in the wall surface of the prepared hole 13 so as to be fixedly attached, and also, the metal plate 11 is pressed on the structural material 10 by the tightening head portion 3 so as to be fixed, moreover detent protrusions 5 provided on also the seat of the tightening head portion 3 is bitten into the metal plate 11.
