Abstract:
PURPOSE:To prevent the external diameter of a metallic pipe connection part from varying by leading the tip of each optical fiber out of the slit of each metallic pipe, welding end surfaces of metallic pipes directly to each other and then connecting tips of optical fibers outside the metallic pipes, and housing them in the pipes through the slits. CONSTITUTION:The slits 13b and 14b are formed lengthwise from the end surfaces 13a and 14a of the metallic pipes 13 and 14, the tip parts of the optical fibers 11 and 12 put in the metallic pipes 13 and 14 are led out of the pipes through the slits 13b and 14b, and the end surfaces 13a and 14a of the metallic pipes 13 ad 14 are connected mutually while the slits 13b and 14b are set at the same position. Then the optical fibers 11 and 12 are connected to each other outside the pipes and then re-housed in the metallic pipes 13 and 14 through the slits 13a and 14b. Consequently, the optical fibers are prevented from damaging and deteriorating in characteristics owing to the heat generated at the time of the welding of the metallic pipes 13 and 14 and no sleeve need to be formed at the connection part between the metallic pipes. Consequently, the metallic pipe connection part does not vary in external diameter.
