The method for connecting a trailer (2) to an automobile (1) or the semi-trailer to the semi-trailer towing vehicle in particular, includes an image sensor (5) arranged in a connection area (6) to record image data of the connection area (6). During the approach of the automobile (1) to the trailer (2), stored model data of the connection area (6) of the trailer (2) are distributed to the image data recorded by the image sensor (5) and are placed in correct positions in the image data, respectively. An object section (9) for connection is determined on its basis. Arrangement of the object section (9) in the image data is used as a scale for steering wheel operation of the automobile (1) during the connection.
