PURPOSE: To make it possible to easily adjust the misalignment between articles to be coated and a spray device or the like by controlling the relative positions of both by the processing program formed in accordance with the relative motions of both at the time of previously executed standard coating.
CONSTITUTION: Prior to coating of automobile bodies or the like to be coated in continuous work, a sample car body is introduced into a spray chamber and is subjected to coating. At this time, the prescribed reference position, the movements that the spray device is ought to carry out with respect to the selected points on the car body, coating parameters or the like are previously stored. At the time of the initial coating, the actual positions of the respective car bodies 2 carried into the spray chamber 1, i.e., the fixed reference points 10, 12 distinctly regulated with respect to the reference positions of coating robots 3, 3' and the distance between the selected characteristic points 11 and 13 are first measured and stored by measuring systems 7, 8. The stored values are compared with the initially measured ideal positions at the time of forming the control program and the misalignment is corrected.
