PURPOSE: To prevent the leakage of a molten metal and to obtain plating having good quality and high uniformity by forming the pouring basin of the molten metal consisting of twin rolls provided in a passage for a metallic strip of a material having poor wettability with the above-mentioned metal.
CONSTITUTION: The pouring basin 11 of the cavity enclosed with the parallel twin rolls 2a, 2b in a chamber 3 packed therein with a gaseous mixture composed of H2 and N2 and side dams is disposed across the mid-way of the passage for allowing the passage of the metallic strip 1. While the molten metal 5 is maintained at a specified liquid level, the molten metal is supplied from a container 4 via a piping 6 to the pouring basin 11 and the strip 1 is passed continuously from above to below to obtain the hot dip coated material. The surface part in contact with the molten metal of the pouring basin 11 in this method is formed of the material having the poor wettability with the molten metal; for example, an oxide material or graphite material. The wetting of the molten metal does not arise in this way even if ≤2mm gap exists around the metallic strip 1 and further the generation of transfer or the flow along edges from the edges is prevented.
