Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prevent the growth of abnormal solidified structure caused by the development of solidified shell by suppressing the development of the solidified shell near a meniscus of molten steel in a mold in continuous casting for steel.

CONSTITUTION: While measuring the molten steel (M) temp. in the mold (C) during casting, an electrode (E) inserted in molten mold power (P) above a meniscus (m) of the molten steel (M) is energized and the meniscus (m) part is continuously heated by the resistance heat of the mold power (P) and the temp. of the molten steel (M) positioned within 10mm below the meniscus (m) is controlled in the range of the liquidus temp. +10°C to +20°C to execute the continuous casting. By this method, the molten steel temp. near the meniscus is controlled in the optimal temp. range, and the excess growth of the solidified shell near the meniscus can be suppressed. Therefore, the development of the abnormal solidified structure easily trapping gas bubbles, inclusions, mold powder, etc., is prevented and the surface quality of the cast slab can be improved.
