Abstract:

To develop a multistage method for producing an isocyanate in a very high chemical yield and a high space time yield with a small amount of accumulated phosgene.

The method is one for producing an isocyanate by reacting an organic amine with phosgene in at least three stages including (a) a first stage performed in a dynamic mixer, (b) a second stage performed in at least one reactor, and (c) a third stage performed in at least one material separation apparatus, wherein (1) the pressure in the reactor in the second stage is higher than or equal to the pressure in the dynamic mixer in the first stage, and (2) the pressure in the material separation apparatus in the third stage is lower than the pressure in the reactor in the second stage.
