To provide a method and apparatus for controlling a dampening water supply amount which contributes to a reduction in a production cost, to which automatical control is suitably applied and which can eliminate spoilage which is a problem brought about due to a control based on information to be judged as an abnormal value in the case the lowest water content is detected at the outside of a paper width. so as to reduce spoilage and maintain high quality.
The method for controlling the dampening water supply amount comprises the steps of measuring an ink on a metal roller in an inking roller to obtain data of a quantitative ratio of the dampening water contained in the ink in offset printing by utilizing an infrared ray, and controlling the dampening water supply amount by processing based on the obtained data. The method further comprises the steps of regulating a rotating amount of a water fountain roller based on the data obtained by the measuring of the ink contained in a range of the paper width for passing the printing sheet on the metal roller, and controlling the supply amount of the dampening water.
