Abstract:
To provide a method for controlling a degradation rate of a biodegradable polymer such as polylactic acid by a simple method.
The method comprises modifying the surface of a biodegradable polymer by subjecting the surface to a UV-ozone treatment thereby to control the degradation rate of the biodegradable polymer. The surface of the biodegradable polymer is partially subjected to a UV-ozone treatment for example via a mask and then the whole surface is subjected to an enzymatic degradation treatment thereby partially controlling the degradation rate of the biodegradable polymer to form a pattern on the surface of the biodegradable polymer.
