Title:
METHOD FOR CONTROLLING FUNGAL PATHOGEN AND MATERIAL USEFUL THEREFOR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP2007332147
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

To provide a method for using a sugar acid to inhibit, retard growth and/or viability of plant pathogens, e.g., prokaryotes, eukaryotes and the like, infecting to a plant or a part of the plant or ectoparasitic by other means, or to control them by other means.

The method is to prevent or treat infection caused by a range of fungal pathogens in animals, plants or stored plant products and includes a process for administering an effective amount of the sugar acid, above all, mannoic acid, gluconic acid or galacturonic acid. The sugar acid can be delivered by a biocontroller that can produce the sugar acid. The biocontroller is, e.g., Pseudomonas strain AN5. The strain is characterized by the capacity to convert an aldose to a sugar acid. Nucleotide sequences from a group of enzymes in the Pseudomonas PQQ enzyme pathway which may be used to transform microorganisms and plants so that they produce the sugar acids at levels sufficient to control the growth or viability of the pathogens are also disclosed.
