The method for controlling the lens cleaning device 1 wipes an asymmetric lens L by relatively moving an applied wiping member 2 in a substantially diametrical direction to the asymmetric lens L while rotating the asymmetric lens L whose edge thickness changes in the peripheral direction. The method includes a displacement/reaction detection process S1 of detecting a momentary displacement of the wiping member 2 following the asymmetric lens L and a momentary reaction which the wiping member 2 receives from the asymmetric lens L, and a pressure control process S2 of controlling so that a pressure F' relative to the asymmetric lens L of the wiping member 2 is constant, based on the detection results of momentary displacements and those of momentary reactions.
