PURPOSE: To provide a method for controlling the operation of a die casting machine, by which a series of return movement for changing the die by a stopping command for changing the die and a series of movement from the occurrence of a trouble to the cycle stop for executing the return movement are automatically performed.

CONSTITUTION: In the operating control method in a series of pressurizing and casting processes 11-18 (die opening for spraying releasing agent onto the die surface, die clamping, pouring of molten metal with a ladle, injection of the molten metal into the die, die cooling, die opening for ejecting a product, taking-out of the product) with a sequential controller in the die casting machine, at the time of stopping to change the die 26, a series of return movement, in which the machine is stopped at a point in time attaining the planned number of the products and the die clamping in a low pressure is executed to mate the die and the molten metal in the ladle is returned into a furnace and the die is changed 28, is automatically executed to stop the operation. Further, in the case of stopping the cycle in the machine caused by generation of some trouble, a series of return movement of ascent of a spray 19, die opening 20, return-back of an injection cylinder 21 and taking-out of the product 22 to the shifting of the ladle into/onto the furnace 23, is automatically executed to stop the cycle.
