To accurately and quickly control the steam pressure of a drier in the change-over of products by accurately estimating the initial value of the water content of the web at the inlet of the drier after the change-over work.
The setting value of steam pressure after the product change- over work is simulated by calculating the initial value of simulated water content from the ratio of the bone dry basis weight and the ratio of the papermaking speeds before and after the change-over work, calculating the bone dry coating amount from the flow rate and the concentration of the sizing agent and calculating the water contents of the web at the inlet of the drier after the size press from the obtained coating amount. The drier is accurately controllable owing to the accurately determined water content to improve the product quality and shorten the product exchange change-over time.
