PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of controlling a traverser of a wire saw capable of suppressing the generation of accumulation of wire at an end of a wire reel, when the wire is wound up around the wire reel through a traverser; and a wire saw.SOLUTION: A method of controlling a traverser moving an axial direction of a wire reel to guide a wire, when the wire is fed out from the wire reel through the traverser, or when the wire is wound up around the wire reel through the traverser, makes the operation width of the traverser when the wire is wound up around the wire reel smaller than the operation width of the traverser when the wire is fed out from the wire reel.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
