To provide a method for cooling a long product, which can set a fine structure of the hot rolled long product to be as flexible as possible.SOLUTION: There is provided the method for cooling a hot rolled rod, wire, tube or profile by using an apparatus 100. This apparatus comprises: a coolant feed line 42 for feeding a coolant; a plurality of cooling devices 70 each connected to the coolant feed line via an individually adjustable control valve 90, the coolant delivery of which depends on a degree of opening of each control valve 90; and a shut-off valve 102 for opening or shutting off the coolant feed line 42 to feed the coolant to the cooling devices 70. Distribution of the coolant delivery in a travel direction can be flexibly adjusted by individually setting the degrees of opening of the control valves 90.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
