Title:
METHOD FOR CUTTING-OFF SHEET METAL DRUM
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3875565
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cutting-off a sheet metal drum, by which a radius of curvature of a rounded portion can be increased without increasing a tool angle, and a tool life can be elongated.
SOLUTION: The sheet metal drum 4 is cut-off by pressing a disk cutter 6 against an inner peripheral surface of the drum 4 while turning the drum 4. The disk cutter 6 is made of metal harder than the drum 4, and has a tool angle within the range from 50° to 90°, and is rotatably supported. A backup roller 8 abuts against the outside peripheral surface of the drum 4 at the position corresponding to the pressing portion of the cutter 6, and rotates synchronously with the drum 4. The backup roller 8 is able to support the drum 4 pushed by the cutter 6, and is made of resin softer than the cutter 6 and is deformable following the deformation of the drum 4 during cutting-off operation and is returnable to the original shape after releasing of the pressure by the cutter 6. After cutting-off of the drum 4, the cutter 6 abuts against the backup roller 8. The backup roller 8 is made of polyacetal resin.
