Abstract:

PURPOSE: To rapidly perform decarburization-refining of chromium-containing steel without oxidizing chromium by holding a specific relation between silicon content in molten steel at the starting time of refining and height of a lance for blowing oxygen at the time of decarburization-refining chromium-containing molten steel by blowing oxygen under reduced pressure.

CONSTITUTION: Molten iron subjected to preliminary desiliconization and dephosphprization refining is charged into a converter and is mixed with Fe-Cr as a chromium source while blowing oxygen to perform decarburization. Since a part of added chromium is oxidized and is transferred into a molten slag as Cr2O3, Cr2O3, in the molten slag is reduced to chromium by a reducing agent such as Fe-Si and is recovered in the molten steel. The chromium-containing molten steel crudely refined by decarburization is transferred into a reduced device and is subjected to final decarburization refining by blowing oxygen with a top-blown lance to produce low carbon chrome steel. At this time, low carbon chrome steel is stably manufactured without oxidative loss of chromium by adjusting X(%) to 0.11-0.25% and to satisfy Y≤-4×X+2, in which Y(m) is height of the top-blown lance from a molten steel surface and X(%) is silicon content of chromium-containing steel crudely refined by decarburization at the starting time of reduced decarburization.
