Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a more effective method for decreasing acidity and corrosivity of whole crude oil or fractions thereof so as to reduce material treating problems accompanied with treatment of acidic crude oil and to decrease emulsion formation.
SOLUTION: The crude oil having decreased acidity and corrosivity is produced by contacting an acid-containing corrosive crude oil with a proper amount of a group IIA metal naphthenate salt in the presence of the corresponding effective amount of water.
