PURPOSE: To provide a method wherein a bottom product having a specified boiling point is recovered from a product obtained by hydrogenating a hydrocarbon feedstock containing sulfur and metals with the aid of a specified catalyst, and the bottom product is subjected to delayed coking so as to obtain a small amount of a low-value coke, a large amount of a high-value distillate, and a gas.
CONSTITUTION: A hydrocarbon feestock (A) containing sulfur and metals is hydrogenated by uniform contact with a catalyst (B) comprising 1-5 wt.% Ni oxide or Co oxide and 10-25 wt.% Mo oxide, supported by a porous alumina carrier, having an Mo gradient of 6 or below, being in the form capable of extraction of 15-30 wt.% Ni or Co with an acid, and having a total surface area of 150-210 m2/g and a total pore volume of 0.50-0.75 cc/g and hydrogen (C) to obtain hydrogenated decomposition product containing a vaporous product and a liquid product, and a bottom product having a boiling point of 1,000° F or above is recovered from the liquid product, and the bottom product is subjected to delayed coking.
