This method for detecting the baking tool using an ultrasonic sensor in a sanitary earthenware baking cycle of carrying a baked product into a kiln in the state of being mounted on the baking tool previously set to a setter, taking the baked product down from a baking line after baking and replacing the left baking tool according to the shape of the following baked product, has a setter distance measuring process for measuring a distance between the ultrasonic sensor and the setter, a baking tool distance measuring process for measuring a distance between the ultrasonic sensor and the baking tool, and a process for setting a setter measured value obtained in the setter distance measuring process, as a reference value and comparing a difference value between a baking tool measured value obtained in the baking tool distance measuring process, and the reference value, with the predetermined set value to detect the presence and/or thickness of the baking tool.
