PURPOSE: To detect automatically whether fins are present by imaging the parting surface of an insert in an oil hole at a finned part with a bore scope fitted with an ITV camera and by calculating the area and the width through comparison with a fin-free basic pattern and through image processing.
CONSTITUTION: A work 31 is set to a jig on a conveyor with jug and moved to the position of a fin detector l. A photoelectric sensor senses the work and outputs work 31 arrival signals to a control panel 7. The control panel 7 commands an elevator 4 to move, and the elevator 4 lowers the detection part 21 of a bore scope 2 down to an observation part of the work 31. The control panel 7 switches on an illumination light source 5 of the scope 2 and outputs an imaging start signal to an image processor 6, so that an ITV camera 3 images the observation part. It is compared with the shading distribution of the fin-free basic pattern to judge a fin's situation. Further, the area and the width are measured by a differential image from the basic pattern and compared with a set value to judge whether fins are present. Results of judgment are noticed by Patlit 9, 10.
