Abstract:

To provide a novel gelled medium for detecting meticillin-resistant micro-organisms.

A novel solid medium for detecting meticillin-resistant micro-organisms contains: an antibiotic selected from the cephalosporin group, particularly in the second or third generation; nutrients for growth of the micro-organisms; and a chromogenic agent which releases a chromophore after hydrolysis with an active enzyme in the micro-organisms. The micro-organisms are staphylococci, particularly, Staphylococcus aureus.
