Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for accurately detecting the number of passengers waiting at gateways for an elevator by using an image processing system.
SOLUTION: A difference image which shows a difference in brightness between an input image obtained by photographing waiting passengers with a camera set up in position at gateways on floors and a reference image obtained by photographing no waiting passengers is found (S3), the input image is divided into areas where the passengers are photographed by using the input image and the difference image (S4), the degree of confirmation that heads are imaged in the areas is computed (S5, S6) and the areas where the degrees of confirmation are over a preset value are counted (S7). Picture elements shared by heads or bodies photographed in the areas divided by using geometric modelling are extracted (S8) whereby the areas where the bodies are imaged in the input image are removed (S9) and the picture elements shared by heads are computed (S10). Waiting passengers are detected from the number of the areas found in the processes of S7, S10.
