To detect diseases such as cancer and eukaryotic infection by determining the presence or level of telomerase activity in a cell sample and then connecting the result with a morbid state or disease associated with altered telomerase activity level.
This method of detection comprises detecting a morbid state or disease associated with altered telomerase activity level in a cell sample; specifically, the presence or level of telomerase activity in a cell sample is determined by a telomerase activity assay which determines whether a substrate oligonucleotide is extended or not based on the reaction between a cell sample extract, the substrate oligonucleotide subject to extension by telomerase and nucleotide triphosphate, and the result is connected with a morbid state or disease associated with altered telomerase activity level, thus detecting such morbid state or disease, for example, diagnosing cancer or eukaryote-pathogenic infection.
