In a method of determining the embedment depth of an impermeable wall 1 under a condition where the ground under an excavation bottom is formed by layering an upper aquifer S1, a first aquiclude C1, an intermediate layer M, and a second aquiclude C2 in the order from above, an applied hydraulic pressure U2 generated by a seepage flow from below and acting on the undersurface of the first aquiclude C1 is calculated, a load balance FS2 at the undersurface of the first aquiclude C1 is calculated using the applied hydraulic pressure U2, and an embedment depth lw of the impermeable wall 1 is determined so that the load balance FS2 exceeds a safety factor FS.
