Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a method for determining the properties of cast iron quickly and exactly in a hob before molten cast iron is poured into an ingot case.
CONSTITUTION: Three sampling vessels for thermal analysis of molten cast iron which are equipped with thermocouples 4 respectively are connected to a cooling curve plotter 7 respectively. A chilling agent 5 is added to a first sampling vessel 1 out of them, the molten iron is poured into this first vessel 1 and the temperature of eutectic of cementite(TEC) thereof is measured by the thermal analysis thereof. Subsequently, the molten iron with no additive added is poured into a second sampling vessel 2 and a change in the eutectic solidification temperature of the molten iron itself is measured from the thermal analysis thereof. Moreover, a graphitizing acceleration agent 6 is added to a third sampling vessel 3, the molten iron is poured into this third vessel 3 and the temperature of eutectic of graphite(TEG) is measured by the thermal analysis thereof. The properties of the molten cast iron are determined on the basis of the relations of the temperature of eutectic of cementite(TEC) and the temperature of eutectic of graphite(TEG) to a range of the change in the eutectic solidification temperature of the molten iron.
