To determine the centerline segregation of a slab when continuous casting is performed while applying rolling force to the slab with a rolling reduction gradient provided to a roll segment using a roll segment type continuous casting machine.
Casting is started while setting the rolling reduction gradient of a roll segment to an optional value of ≥0.3 mm/m, the displacement amount of a frame 17' of the roll segment is measured by three distance measuring sensors 15 during casting, a displacement amount of the frame from a reference position at each of measuring positions is determined based on the measured displacement amount, the rolling reduction gradient SL1-2 between the first sensor 15 and a second sensor 15a, the rolling reduction gradient SL1-3 between the first sensor 15 and a third sensor 15b, and the rolling reduction gradient SL2-3 between the second sensor and the third sensor are determined from the obtained displacement amounts, and when the relationship: (rolling reduction gradient SL2-3)>(rolling reduction gradient SL1-3)>(rolling reduction gradient SL1-2) is satisfied, the slabs which are cast in this state are excluded as being abnormal in view of quality from those for ordinary operation.
