Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the aligning method which can speedily and accurately align a multifiber terminal type optical component. SOLUTION: Light is made incident on the optical fibers F1 to Fn of a fiber array 1, the projection power of waveguide terminals D1 to Dn is measured, and the quantities of shifts between the respective optical fiber terminals and respective waveguide terminals are detected. An angle deviation detection part 18 detects the angle deviation between the array directions of the optical filters and waveguide terminals. Assuming that a rotation is made in the direction wherein the angle deviation is eliminated, the terminal group axis shift quantity between the optical filters and waveguides is detected. Assuming that the terminal group axis deviation quantity is eliminated, the axis deviation quantity between the optical fiber terminals an waveguide terminals is detected as a characteristic axis deviation quantity. Then while the fiber array 1 is moved actually in the direction wherein the angle deviation and terminal group axis shift quantity are eliminated, light is passed through one optical fiber to detect the representative axis shift quantity of the shift from the corresponding the waveguide terminal. Then the characteristic axis shift quantity is subtracted from the representative axis shift quantity and the fiber array 1 is aligned and moved in the direction wherein the axis shift quantity is eliminated.
