PURPOSE: To provide a method and a device for automatically injecting an additive in a fuel tank of a motor vehicle from an onboard additive tank in which the additive can be correctly measured, and freely adjusted, and a mixture of the fuel and the additive which is homogenized to an optimum can be obtained.
CONSTITUTION: The quantity of the additive to be withdrawn from an additive tank 101 is determined using an onboard computation unit 102, the additive of thus determined quantity is injected by the pulsed atomization, and the atomizing effect is directly implemented in a liquid volume of the fuel. This pulsed atomization is carried out by controlling a positive-displacement piston pump 112, by the number of strokes of the piston which is automatically determined as a function of the quantity of the additive to be withdrawn.
