PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically fill powder into a die by positioning a die in which a lower press core is inserted into its lower part to a powder filling position, deciding depth by moving the lower press core, filling the powder in the die, leveling off the powder above the upper face of the die and compacting the powder under a desired pressure.
SOLUTION: A lower press core (e) is inserted from the lower side of a hole piercing a hollow cylindrical die (a). The lower press core (e) is pushed up, and the upper face of the lower press core (e) is set to a prescribed depth from the upper face (c) of the die (a). Powder (j) is filled into the clearance (h) formed with the die (a) and the lower press core (e) by a level off type powder filling mechanism. In this state, the upper face of the powder (j) is flush with the upper face of the die (a). The powder (j) is compacted by an upper press rod (k). When a plurality of kinds of the powder (j) are made to a plurality of layers, the powder (j) is firt compacted, the lower press core (e) is moved up/down in accordance with a filling quantity, different powder is filled on the powder (j), and compacting is continued.
