Abstract:

To reduce the rotation (meandering) of a slab on a horizontal plane which is mainly generated on the side of the rear end due to the asymmetry of the slab by adding a devise to the centering method of the slab prior to the broadside reduction edging when performing width reduction of the slab which is asymmetric with respect to the center line in plan view while intermittently expanding and contracting the gap between a pair of draft dies which are arranged on both sides of a conveying line.

The slab 1 which is asymmetric to the center line in plan view is conveyed on the upstream side of the draft dies 2, 2', slab rear-end side guide mechanisms 3, 3' are moved to the position of the rear end of the slab which is detected by a detector 4 and the rear end of the slab is centered. After that, the slab 1 is furthermore advanced to close proximity to the gap between the edging dies 2, 2' with conveying table rollers and reduced to a prescribed width size by the gap between the draft dies 2, 2' which is expanded and contracted while intermittently being fed by a pinch roll 5.
