To provide a control method and control device wherein when a desired value cannot be inputted because of variations in requirements and hence the desired value cannot be set properly, a state free from tinting can be taken in as a proper desired value.
In the method for controlling amounts of water, amounts of ink and amounts of water on an ink roller 3 are measured using infrared rays and the amount of water in a state free from tinting is take up as a reference value, and if the amount of water contained in ink differs from the reference value by a predetermined amount in a succeeding measurement, a control is conducted so that the amount of water approaches the reference value. And the control device 5 includes a water amount measuring means to measure amounts of water, and a control means which recognizes by itself the amount of water in a state free from tinting or stores amounts of water as a reference value when the amount of water is inputted to control amounts of feed water in such a manner that when amounts of water measured in a succeeding measurement differs from the reference value by a predetermined value, the amount of water is controlled so that it approaches the reference value.
