PURPOSE: To extend a visual dynamic range by dither-processing pixels substantially near white so as to improve the picture quality of a part near white.

CONSTITUTION: In a color processing system, near white correction by means of a near white correction unit is executed before the improvement of the dynamic range of a recorded picture. An inputted pixel is compared with a threshold value and when it is not more than the value, dither processing is executed to decide an output value. Then dither processing decides the output value to be the threshold value or zero.
