Abstract:
PURPOSE: To stably count the number or persons like pedestrians gathering and scattering at an entrance/exit by directions regardless of their unfixed moving directions and to classify the moving directions to many directions.
CONSTITUTION: The value obtained by successively updating the picture element value on a counting line provided in a picture with the object non-passing state is taken as the background value (200), and the difference between the picture element value on the counting line changing with time and the background value is processed and this picture element value is subjected to binarization processing to extract a moving object area (300), ana moving object areas are coupled in the order of time to form a moving object image (400), and the number of moving objects is counted based on the moving object image (500), and the passing direction of the moving object is detected by discriminating which of direction discrimination areas, which are set above and below the counting line at the time or the start or the end or formation of the moving object image, the moving object exists in (600).
