Vehicle data collected by ECUs 10, 11, 12 are input to an input processing unit 51 of data compression equipment 50A via a network 20 in a vehicle. A compression processing unit 52 reads a compression rule for each attribute from a compression rule memory 53 according to an attribute of the input vehicle data to discretize the vehicle data according to the read compression rule. When reduction in data size is further required for communication and storage capacity, general and reversible compression is further performed to the discretized vehicle data as required. An output processing unit 54 outputs the compressed data to a vehicle data storage device 30 and a communication device 40 outside the vehicle.
