To provide a method for detecting defective anode, by which a defective anode can be detected safely and surely with high accuracy when the method is applied to the casting process of anodes, particularly, a shoulder type anode.
In the method for detecting defective anode, the shapes of hanging sections A2 and A2, which are formed integrally with the electrode plate section A1 of a shoulder type anode A which is cast at a prescribed position of a mold 2 set on a turntable 1 that is continuously rotationally moved in the peripheral direction. After the hanging sections A2 and A2 are exposed by partially pushing up the cast anode A from the mold 2, the heights of the sections A2 and A2 and the sizes of the sections A2 and A2 in the longitudinal direction of the anode A are measured with laser range finders 10 and 11 provided above the exposed hanging sections A2 and A2. Then, the defectless/ defective condition of the anode A is discriminated by detecting the warp of the anode A and presence/absence of burrs at the upper ends of the sections A2 and A2. When a defective anode is discriminated, the anode is rejected.
