Abstract:
PURPOSE: To reduce the arithmetic operation quantity and to preclude the possibility of mis-detection when a motion vector is detected by the block matching method.
CONSTITUTION: A size of a motion vector detection object block is selected to be 16×16 and divided into small blocks in a size 4×4 by a small block processing circuit. A steady-state component is extracted by a circuit 7a for each small block comprising 4×4 picture elements and a transient component is extracted by a circuit 8a. The steady-state component and the transient component are extracted for each block as to data of a reference data. A difference of the steady-state component and the transient component is detected respectively and an evaluation value is formed by applying weight means to accumulated absolute differences. A motion vector is detected based on the evaluation value.
