Title:
METHOD AND DEVICE FOR DISSOLVING PLUTONIUM OXIDE AND NEPTUNIUM OXIDE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS60224098
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
1. Process for dissolving plutonium oxide and/or neptunium oxide, consisting of introducing into an electrolysis cell having an anode and a cathode an aqueous nitric acid solution having a nitric acid solution of 2 to 8 mol.l**-1 , the plutonium and/or neptunium oxide to be dissolved and an oxidizing agent constituted by silver oxide in order to oxidize the plutonium and/or the neptunium oxides and dissolve them in the solution and the apply a potential difference between the anode and cathode for regenerating the oxidizing agent, characterized in that the solution is stirred at the anode and in that the potential difference applied between the anode and the cathode is such that the current intensity l in the cell is maintained at a constant value chosen as a function of the surface of the anode and the silver concentration of the solution to obtain a faradic yield of at least 0.2.
