PURPOSE: To prepare and edit a document while confirming a print image by displaying a character pitch and a line pitch after reducing or enlarging them by the same size or a constant longitudinal and lateral ratio, and displaying a character size by an arbitrary size.
CONSTITUTION: Text data inputted from a keyboard 10 are stored in a text buffer 14 by a control part 12. At the same time, a corresponding character pattern is read from a pattern memory 22. A character size/character pitch/line pitch calculating part 24 calculates the character pitch, line pitch, and character size of the pertinent character according to print format data held in a print format information 16, and the display mode of a display mode part 26, by the indication the control part 12. Then, only the character pitch and line pitch are displayed by reducing or enlarging them by the same dimension or the same longitudinal and lateral ratio, and the character size is displayed by the arbitrary size, for example, the same size as the character pitch, at a display part 20.
