Abstract:
The process manufactures cylindrical tinplate cans closed at one end, partic. for fruit, jam, etc. A round disc is first deep-drawn into a bowl shape of the same or larger dia. than the finished article, after which the bowl wall is drawn out to the desired height and the bottom curved inwards. After the deep-drawing operation, the bottom is stretched so as to form a corrugation towards the bowl inside. After the wall has been drawn out, circular concentric grooves are pressed into the bottom. The latter can be stretched until it reaches roughly double the thickness of the finished peripheral wall.
