Stopper elements 28 and 29 are moved from working positions at the edge of the pile to standby positions spaced apart from the edge of the pile immediately before a pile 21 is dropped, and after the pile is dropped by a designated distance, a sheet height position holder 38 for a rear edge of the sheet is moved to a pile area.
