PURPOSE: To effectively form various gratings whose Brrag reflection wavelengths are different in an optical waveguide by forming desired gratings while adjusting irradiating angles of an interference beam with respect to the optical waveguide.
CONSTITUTION: An ultraviolet light 13 emitted from an ultraviolet light source 12 is almost perpendicularly made incident on the light incident surface 15 of a transmission phase grating 14 to be diffracted and the light beam emitted from the phase grating 14 becomes an interference beam 17 forming interference fringes. The interference beam 17 is projected on the prescribed part of the optical fiber 30 provided on a rotary stage 20. Thus, a grating is formed on the core at the prescribed part of the optical fiber 30. The direction of the optical axis of the optical fiber 30 is made to be changed by the rotary stage 20. Consequently, the irradiating direction of the interference beam 17 with respect to the optical fiber 30 can be adjusted, so gratings having various pitches can be formed in the optical fiber 30.
