To provide a method and a device for grinding a work piece capable of suppressing the calorific power of the work piece at the time of plunge grinding to prevent the occurrence of grinding burn, and reducing the correction amount of a grinding wheel to increase the amount of the production of the work piece per one grinding wheel.
In this grinding method, the work piece W with a cylinder 20 and a pair of end faces 21 and the grinding wheel 10 rotatable around an axis line in parallel with the axis line of the work piece W are rotated, respectively, and the grinding wheel 10 is moved so that the distance between the end faces 21 is worked to have a prescribed finished width. The width of the grinding wheel 10 is made to be narrower than the finished width between the end faces 21. The method includes a first grinding step moving the grinding wheel 10 in a zigzag between the finished widths from the grinding start position of the end face parts 21 to the grinding end position of the cylinder 20, and a second grinding step moving the grinding wheel 10 in the axis line direction from the finished position of one end face 21 to the finished position of the other end face 21. Furthermore, a grinding device capable of implementing the method is provided.
